Headless vs Elevar for Shopify Meta tracking

Headless and Elevar solve the same problem at different prices and depths. Which one fits a Shopify store running paid Meta ads.

Headless and Elevar both solve server-side Meta tracking for Shopify. They are not close on price and they are not close on scope. Elevar is a multi-platform, agency-oriented product whose entry tier starts at $225 per month. Headless is a product entering at $0 and topping out at $49. The right question is not which is better — it is whether you need a multi-platform tool at all.

If you run one store, advertise on Meta only, and care about how many revenue and engagement metrics you can see per dollar, Headless is the better fit. If you run several stores, need Google or TikTok delivery, or hand client work to a team, Elevar earns its price.

Crawler traffic is excluded before it is counted. The check runs first thing in the pixel, ahead of every listener, fetch and cookie, so a rejected page registers no handlers and sends nothing at all — no analytics row, no Meta event, no cost. It has to run there: a crawler executes JavaScript, lands on your store's own origin and is handed the real tag, so nothing at the edge or in the server can tell it apart. The filter also fails open — an environment it cannot measure is tracked rather than dropped. The honest limit is that it is client-side: a bot that spoofs its user agent and clears navigator.webdriver still gets through, and because a filtered page is never stored, there is no "bots blocked" figure to show you. Elevar documents no equivalent at any tier, and the third-party comparisons that benchmark it list bot filtering as unavailable — its strength is delivery fidelity, not traffic classification.

Where Elevar wins

Elevar's advantage is scope, and it is a real one. It ships server-side delivery for Google Ads and TikTok alongside Meta, which Headless deliberately does not. It has established client and agency workflows, so if several stores need managing under one roof, that tooling exists and has been battle-tested. Its reporting is deeper on the Shopify-native side — order-level and product-level detail that agencies ask for when they are reconciling against a client's books.

None of that is a knock on Elevar. It is a different product aimed at a different buyer, and for a team running client portfolios it is the correct tool.

Where Headless wins

Three things separate Headless from a $200-per-month tool for a small store.

Metric depth. Headless reports 39 revenue and engagement metrics, not just attribution. A store can see which products drive margin, how repeat purchase behaves, and where engagement actually comes from — without exporting to a spreadsheet. This is the difference between "Meta says 400 purchases" and knowing which 400.

Retention. Safari ITP caps browser-pixel cookies at 7 days and known trackers at 24 hours, so a browser-only store structurally cannot see beyond a week. Headless stores 90 days on Starter, 2 years on Growth, and unlimited on Pro. For a store deciding where to spend next quarter, history is the asset.

Price discipline. $0 to $49 means the decision is reversible. Start free, see whether the 39 metrics change your spending, upgrade only if they do. At $225 a month the decision is a commitment you defend internally.

What they have in common

Both depend on correct deduplication to report honestly. If you send browser and server events without a shared event ID, both will double-count conversions and both will show you a profitability collapse that does not exist. See server-side CAPI deduplication for the mechanics.

Both also inherit Meta's Event Match Quality ceiling. Enrichment raises your score; it does not make your traffic clean. A store feeding bot conversions to Meta will damage Smart Bidding at any match score.

Migrating from Elevar

If you switch, remove Elevar before you install Headless. Both tools send the same events, and running them together double-counts every conversion while making both dashboards wrong. Deduplicate on install, verify in Events Manager that exactly one copy of each purchase arrives, then compare the two dashboards for a full billing cycle before cancelling anything.

Frequently asked questions

Is Elevar better than Headless?

For agencies and Shopify Plus brands running multi-platform tracking, frequently yes — Elevar ships Google and TikTok delivery, deeper Shopify-native reporting, and established client workflows. For a single-store Meta-only merchant, Headless costs a fraction as much and includes 39 metrics that Elevar does not.

How much does Elevar cost?

Elevar's entry plan (Core) is $225/month for up to 2,000 orders, and the higher rungs reach $3,000. Headless runs $0 to $49/month. That gap is the main reason the two products attract different buyers.

Does Headless do Google or TikTok conversion tracking?

No. Headless is Meta-only by design, which is what lets it go deeper on Meta signal quality. If you need Google Ads or TikTok server-side delivery in the same tool, Elevar is the better fit.

Can I migrate from Elevar to Headless?

Yes, but plan the deduplication before you switch. Both tools send browser and server events, so leaving Elevar installed while adding Headless double-counts conversions. Remove one before you add the other.
